JOHOR BARU – Interpol has issued a Red Notice against businessman Datuk Seri Nicky Liow Soon Hee, the head of Geng Nicky, and his assistant.
Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the international body came out with the notice against Liow two days ago, while the notice for his assistant, a 31-year-old Chinese national named Niu Zhe, was issued yesterday.
The notices were issued following a request by Malaysian police to locate and detain Liow.
Interpol’s Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender or similar legal action.
“They have both been served the Red Notice,” Ayob Khan told a press conference at the state police headquarters today.
He confirmed that a police officer has been arrested in the probe into Geng Nicky, but did not comment further.
“I do not want to make statements one by one. If there are follow-up arrests, Johor police will hold a press conference on them. What is certain is that operations are ongoing, and there will be more arrests.”
It was reported today that police have detained a senior officer in relation to the case.
On another case, Ayob Khan said a man has been detained for posing as a lawyer for the Johor palace to deceive an advertising company into paying a RM185,000 billboard fee.
He said the 51-year-old was arrested at 9.40am in Kg Dato Onn Jaafar here following a report lodged on March 31, 2011, relating to fraud by an individual posing as a palace lawyer.
“The man, who is a lawyer by profession, deceived the company to obtain RM185,000 as payment for the installation of billboards along the North-South Expressway and Malaysia-Singapore Second Link.
“He will be charged at the Shah Alam sessions court tomorrow under Section 420 of the Penal Code.”
Police earlier nabbed two men posing as members of the Johor royal family in relation to a RM2.4 million fraud, said Ayob Khan, adding that both were charged under Section 420 of the same code on January 9. – Bernama, April 22, 2021
