MIRI – More Covid-19 patients have been admitted to the intensive care unit of Kuching’s Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) over the last four days.
State Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the facility is also seeing more patients being put on ventilators and an increase in admission to its coronavirus wards.
In his social media chats today, he said the ICU at SGH is operating at a critical level.
“Our frontliners at SGH and other hospitals in the state are working non-stop. We must play our part together to stop the spread of Covid-19, as our hospitals are already overloaded.
“The next few weeks will be a very critical time for Sarawak.”
Dr Sim, who is also adviser to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, said the state’s triple-digit daily cases must be contained immediately.
Yesterday, Sarawak recorded another virus death and 533 infections, of which 20% were in Miri district.
The state’s overall Covid-19 fatalities hit 215 with the death of a 60-year-old woman at SGH.
Of the 533 fresh infections, Miri accounted for 109 cases, followed by Kapit (69), Sibu (58), Bintulu (46), Kuching (42), Belaga (40), Sarikei (28), Selangau (26), Meradong (21), Pakan (18), Kanowit (15) and other districts (fewer than 15).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said the ICU at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, is nearing full capacity.
