KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has, as of yesterday, recommended 366 letters of permission to operate since the full-scale movement control order (MCO 3.0) began on Tuesday.
The MCMC said in a statement today that it plays a role as a verification agency in the Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS 3.0) for telecommunications and internet, broadcasting as well as postal and courier sectors, and that recommendations were given to 1,786 applications received.
Of the total, 132 approvals involved telecommunication companies, broadcasting (108) and postal and courier services (126).
The remaining 1,420 applications were rejected as their services were not under the communications sector, did not hold licences under the purview of the commission or are not listed as verified vendors, distributors or agents.
“To ensure the smooth verification process as well as to ensure they are really eligible to be given permission to operate and travel quickly, MCMC requests the cooperation of all parties to ensure the status of companies come under the required services,” it said.
It said for those that are not holders of licences issued by the commission should obtain the confirmation of the related licence issuers before filing applications through CIMS 3.0.
CIMS 3.0 is a one-stop centre managed by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) with the aim of issuing letters of approval to operate and travel during the MCO for all services deemed essential.
The MCMC added that the approval process via CIMS 3.0 for the sectors under its purview is conducted transparently and carefully based on the objectives of the required continuity of the services as well as to avoid abuse of the approval letter. – Bernama, June 4, 2021
