KINABATANGAN – Concerned with the low registration for Covid-19 vaccination in Sabah, the Kinabatangan-Corridor of Life Tourism Operators Association (KiTA) rolled out its own registration initiative.
Its president Alexander Yee said the initiative, carried out together with Kinabatangan Hospital, gathered people from villages where KiTA members operated, namely Kg Sukau and Kg Abai, to assist in the registration of those who had yet to do so.
“We hope that the people who have registered and taken the vaccination will help to pass on the news to the others through word of mouth and speed up the process of vaccination.
“At this moment, the only hope to curb and fight Covid-19 is by achieving 80% vaccination for our population. The sooner we can achieve this, the faster we can get back on our feet and resume daily lives,” he said in a statement here today.
Yee also said that time was of the essence as the country had been under several forms of lockdown for over a year now.
KiTA’s initiative began on June 9 at Kg Sukau, involving 86 villagers before moving to Kg Abai the following day (June 10), involving 50 villagers.
As part of KiTA’s effort to encourage village folk to be vaccinated, the association has set aside 500 bags of 5kg rice packs as a gift to the first 500 villagers who get vaccinated.
According to the Special Committee Covid-19 Vaccine Supply website, the registration rate in Sabah stands at 20.66%, while 7.29% have been vaccinated as of June 10.
In Kinabatangan, 6.03% have registered for the vaccination.
The Sabah Health Department also provides manual registration for vaccination. – Bernama, June 13, 2021
