MIRI – The vaccination of folks in remote areas of Sarawak is in full swing as the fight against Covid-19 takes on great urgency in the rural frontiers.
The move by the Sarawak Health Department to carry out the “inject first, register later” method of vaccination is a great help in facilitating the injection of rural folks.
The Sarawak Public Communication Unit, in its updated reports today, said the vaccination programme in the northern enclaves of Bario, Long San, Long Bedian and Mulu proceeded very well.
Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau also expressed satisfaction with the walk-in method to achieving herd immunity.
“This method is helping a lot, as it is easing (the) movement of people and preventing overcrowding and long waits,” Ngau told The Vibes.
Gala said the Covid-19 vaccination programmes at the health clinics in Bario, Mulu, Long San and Long Bedian will run until tomorrow.
“We are getting more villagers to come. It is proceeding very well. The need to vaccinate rural folks has taken on great urgency.
This new vaccination drive takes a renewed urgency following the sudden death of a Penan housewife from Long Luteng due to Covid-19 and infections of another three dozen Penans in Long Win and Long Lamai over the past few days.
Sarawak has seen 358 deaths and more than 56,000 positive infections to date. – The Vibes, June 16, 2021
