MIRI – Six more Covid-19 fatalities were recorded in Sarawak today, including two who died of the coronavirus despite not suffering from any serious illnesses.
There were yet again numerous longhouse outbreaks linked to mass social gatherings and funerals resulting in 570 new infections as the Covid-19 crisis persisted in the vast state.
The six fatalities included four at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching and the rest at the Mukah and Bau hospitals.
The ones in Kuching involved four men aged 45, 50 (no comorbidity), 68 and 73, and the Mukah case involved a man, 59, while the fatality in Bau involved a man aged 76 without any comorbidity.
“The six Covid-19 deaths brought the total coronavirus death tally in the state to 364,” said the state Disaster Management Committee.
Sarawak saw an additional 570 positive infections with Kuching district logged 98 cases, Mukah (92), Sibu (82), Miri (25), Bintulu (46), Song (32), Sri Aman (31), Serian (23) other districts at below 20 new cases each.
As for the three new clusters, the secretariat said the Gran Stumbin cluster in the Sri Aman district saw several longhouses hold funeral gatherings, causing 82 villagers to be infected with Covid-19 so far.
“414 are being screened and awaiting test results,” said the committee.
The Jalan Bintulu-Miri cluster in northern Sarawak saw 24 longhouse folks down with the coronavirus during a social event.
The Jalan Tg Kidurong cluster in Bintulu have 33 workers in a factory in an industrial estate infected with Covid-19 during a work get-together and the secretariat said active screenings are being carried out by health units in these zones. – The Vibes, June 16, 2021
