KOTA KINABALU – Sabah today reported its first cluster linked to the Kaamatan harvest festival following a gathering in Kionsom, some 15 minutes from here.
State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun tweeted that the cluster, known as Kionsom Kecil, has recorded 27 cases so far, while Kota Kinabalu has 60 cases.
The gathering was held on May 31, which was the end of the two-day Kaamatan harvest festival.
A report released by state health authorities revealed that the index case involves a 31-year-old man, who works at an engineering firm in Inanam.
“The man was admitted to the isolation centre after being found positive following a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test.
“A total of 86 close contacts have been screened between June 12 and 13.
“The cluster has a total of 40 cases, including the 27 today. A total of 34 individuals are awaiting results, while 12 tested negative.”
Sabah recorded 184 new Covid-19 cases today, down 46 from the 230 infections yesterday.
Of the total, 106 are close contacts, 49 from cluster screening, 18 from symptomatic screening, and 11 from other sources. – The Vibes, June 16, 2021
