KUALA LUMPUR – A PKR leader has questioned the inclusion of sodomy in investigations into Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying the government should focus instead on what truly matters, like reviving the coronavirus-battered economy.

Wanita legal bureau and community development chairman Fadhlina Siddiq, in a statement, said the party president was summoned to Bukit Aman yesterday in relation to his bid to become prime minister, making the sodomy probe out of place.

“I call upon us (leaders) not to overwhelm the people with lies about sodomy, which carries negative implications not only for individuals, but society as a whole.

“How many social ills and revolting terms should (the government) use for the sake of staying in power?”

Malaysians are still facing financial hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic, she said, and this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Fadhlina added that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has called on politicians to resolve the country’s leadership tussle through discussions.

“Focus on people’s livelihood and the economy instead of trying to get attention through sodomy slander.”

Anwar is being investigated in six cases, under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Sedition Act 1948, as well as Section 377B of the Penal Code for sodomy. – The Vibes, October 17, 2020
