KOTA KINABALU – Marine police have foiled an attempt by a man trying to leave an area under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Kg Penimbawan, Tuaran, by sea.
The 21-year-old was also found to be in possession of syabu when he was detained by police personnel at a coastal area close to the village about 5pm yesterday.
Kota Kinabalu Operation Base commanding officer Roslan Awang said the man was held after police caught him trying as he was attempting to flee.
“Further inspections revealed a plastic packet containing translucent crystals, believed to be syabu, in the suspect’s possession.
“The suspect was then detained and the drugs valued at RM150 seized,” he said in a statement today.
The suspect, Roslan added, was also slapped with a RM3,000 compound for flouting SOP by attempting to leave an EMCO zone.
“The individual and the seized drugs were handed over to narcotics police at the Tuaran district police headquarters for further investigation.”
The case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act.
