MIRI – The #benderaputih movement has reached Sarawak as some residents have resorted to displaying white flags outside their house as a way to seek help.

Sarawak DAP’s Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said it was a sign of the people’s desperation during the economic hardship brought about by the pandemic and the movement control order.

He added that he saw several such flags in Kuching today.

“They are putting up white flags at their house porches hoping to draw attention to their plight, especially their need for food.

“Our office will help all those who need urgent assistance, including food,” he said on social media today.

This morning, he started visiting houses with white flags, bringing food rations with him.

Yii said his Bandar Kuching DAP office has set up hotlines for people to call and request assistance. His office staff will also assist those needing help to get Covid-19 vaccination.

“For constituents of Bandar Kuching, if you are in desperate need of help and in need of food, we will help you.

“You can contact our office and we will try our best to help,” he said.

Yii said those needing help can call Agnes (016-8683433), Anthony (010-9602334), Kenny (012-8803340), Leslie (016-8006068), or Julian (012-9774983).

Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu are among the 40 districts in Sarawak hit hardest by the Covid-19 crisis.
