KUALA LUMPUR – The four water treatment plants that were forced to close due to odour pollution at Sg Selangor have now reopened, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced at 5.15pm today.

“I am informed that the readings on the pollution levels at the Rantau Panjang treatment plant and Sg Selangor Phases 1, 2 and 3 have breached 0 TON,” he said in a Twitter post.

“Due to this the plants have become operational for cleaning works and will start to process water for the use of consumers.”

The pollution was first detected at about 2am today, leading to the treatment plants’ operations being halted. Some five million Selangor residents were affected.

During a visit to the site this afternoon, Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had said that the ministry is considering increasing the number of riverside reservoirs to provide a second water source in case the rivers get polluted.

He said such reservoirs would provide up to two weeks’ supply of water.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn BhdIt had activated 91 water tankers, 24 static tanks and 21 public pipes for affected residents in Selangor today. – The Vibes, October 19, 2020
