KOTA KINABALU – The armed forces will set up another field hospital in Sabah if need be to help ease the burden on the state’s medical facilities, which are battling a fresh Covid-19 wave.

Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in his daily update today, said the field hospital, if established, will function similarly to the one in Tawau treating non-coronavirus patients.

“Other than the field hospital set up in Tawau, I have discussed with the armed forces on the need to set up one in Kota Kinabalu if there is a need for it.

“We are prepared to assist the Health Ministry increase the number of beds in Sabah. This is so ministry hospitals can focus their attention on Covid-19 cases.”

He said the state National Security Council has brought up the need for more medical facilities at Kepayan Prison, which has been placed under the enhanced movement control order following a spike in Covid-19 infections.

“As such, the armed forces have agreed to set up a makeshift treatment centre at the prison. It will be modelled after the centre at Kedah’s Pokok Sena Prison.”

Ismail Sabri added that a lockdown will be imposed on Labuan’s Kg Saguking Laut and Kg Sebur Baru from tomorrow till November 3. – The Vibes, October 20, 2020
