MIRI – Sixteen more cases of the Delta variant of Covid-19 were found in Sarawak today.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the report on the cases was tabled by Unimas Institute of Health and Community Medicine director Professor Dr David Pereira.
“The report has been sent to the State Disaster Management Committee.
“The Unimas team has found another 16 Delta variant cases in Kuching,” Ukas said in a public announcement.
UKAS is the public communication arm of the state government.
On June 16, the first case of the highly contagious Delta variant, which is originally from India, was discovered in Kuching involving a man aged 56.
The Beta, Theta, and Eta variants have also been detected in the state, said Pereira and his team who are researching these variants.
There were 56 other cases of variants of concern and variants of interest involving Theta, Beta, and Eta strains, which were detected in Kuching, Samarahan, Bau, Lundu, Serian, and Sibu.
Unimas said it will continue to monitor these latest developments as Sarawak continues the war against Covid-19, which has claimed 435 lives and caused some 66,000 infections so far. – The Vibes, July 13, 2021
