MIRI – Business operators in Sibu must obtain Covid-19 vaccination certification from the local council to get the nod to reopen.
The decision by the district Disaster Management Committee today is part of efforts to revive the Sibu economy while ensuring health standards are maintained.
Committee coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said the rule applies to all businesses in the district.
“After they have been fully vaccinated, these business operators can apply for vaccination certification from the municipal council. This certification must be displayed at their shops’ entrance.
“For operators and their workers who have not yet been vaccinated, they must do so. They can seek help from the council to get their jabs soonest.”
In April, the worsening Covid-19 outbreak in Sibu led to dine-in being listed as a “high-risk activity”.
Municipal council chairman Clarence Ting at the time said the majority of infections stemmed from food outlets.
“Evidence gathered by health authorities via MySejahtera in Sibu showed that a lot of Covid-19 patients dined at coffee shops and other eateries before their cases were detected.”
The Sibu Central Market has been ordered shut several times due to outbreaks among its hundreds of traders.
The market not only sells fresh produce, but also has food stalls.
Sibu, Kuching, Bintulu and Miri are among the urban districts with the highest Covid-19 caseload in Sarawak. – The Vibes, July 19, 2021
