Agong to hold talks with other Malay rulers

KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has undertaken to consult other Malay Rulers to discuss and refine suggestions submitted by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.

This comes after the King received Muhyiddin at Istana Abdul Aziz, Kuantan, at 5pm yesterday. 

The audience was requested by Muhyiddin following a special cabinet meeting convened in Putrajaya yesterday morning.

The session with the Agong last for about an hour and a half, said a statement from the Istana Negara today.

The Vibes reported last night that the Agong will be consulting his fellow rulers in the Rulers Council on the need for an emergency.

"In this session that lasted for about an hour and a half, Al-Sultan Abdullah had graciously received a briefing on the proposals that had been reached at the special cabinet meeting for consideration and His Majesty's favour for his implementation," said Istana Negara's Comptroller of the Royal Household, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, in the statement.

Ahmad Fadil also stressed that the King is very understanding on the need for continuity of the administration to combat the threat of the COVID-19 epidemic.  

"In fact, His Majesty is also very concerned about anxiety and annoyance of the people in the wake of this latest development," he said.

In this regard, Al-Sultan Abdullah advised all the people to be calm, not panic and be patient in the face of this current temporary situation while awaiting a decision on the proposals.

"All citizens are also advised not to engage in any speculation that can cause confusion and anxiety as well as disturb the peace in the country that we all love," said Ahmad Fadil.

He also said Al-Sultan Abdullah reiterates his advice to the people to continue their respective functions, while being disciplined in complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the new normal observances to help the authorities combat Covid-19 for personal and community safety. – The Vibes, Oct 24, 2020.
