GEORGE TOWN – Hotels on Penang island are beginning to reopen their doors, with businesses promoting cautionary measures and attractive staycation packages to attract customers.
With Penang under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), G Hotel, along the iconic Gurney Drive here, has introduced “Covid-19 vaccinated” lapel pins for its staff to assure guests staying or dining in at its premises of its safety.
G Hotel general manager Michael Hanratty said the lapel pins are also another way to show appreciation to those who are vaccinated and frontliners.
“It helps to create a sense of assurance and positivity within the community that we are playing our part in the fight against Covid.
“By letting our staff wear the pin on their uniforms, it will not only tell guests that the staff is safe in terms of contact, but it will also encourage those who have doubts about the vaccination to get vaccinated,” he said.
G Hotel communications director Christina Tan told The Vibes that, with the reopening of the tourism industry, the hotel remains cautious when it comes to managing its guests, as not all of their staff are fully vaccinated.
“At present, we are open for stay-in but not for dine-in yet,” she said.
Meanwhile, hotels along the famed beach strip of Batu Ferringhi, such as Shangri-La Rasa Sayang and Shangri-La Golden Sands, are currently offering a special “Penang Lang” promotion, with those who have received their second jab able to stay at a discounted rate.
The golf course and tennis court at both hotels are also open to guests on an appointment basis under strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Guests staying overnight also have to present their digital certificate on the MySejahtera app showing a period of at least 14 days after their second dose or 28 days after being jabbed with a single-dose vaccine.
Shangri-La Rasa Sayang assistant communications manager Fiona Lee told The Vibes that the hotel’s management will observe strict SOPs with the additional screening of dining guests to ensure they are fully vaccinated. – The Vibes, August 18, 2021
