KUALA LUMPUR – Police have apprehended three female suspects believed to have targeted and robbed senior citizens in Jinjang over the weekend.
Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai said the trio, all local women, are believed to be involved in at least three robbery cases targeting senior citizens living alone.
“Posing as members of a non-governmental welfare organisation, the trio would visit and pretend to offer aid to the victims.
“Upon entering the house, one of the suspects would sneak into the victim’s bedroom to steal valuable items,” he said.
The arrests were made following a report lodged by an elderly woman who lost RM8,000 after being robbed by the group at her home in the Intan Baiduri People’s Housing Project in Jinjang on August 9.
“The 43-year-old ringleader and a 23-year-old were arrested last Saturday, and police seized 17 food packaging of various types and brands, four mobile phones and clothing.
“The third group member was arrested yesterday.
“Further investigation revealed that the ringleader has 12 past criminal records, while another individual has three past criminal records for breaking and entering, as well as burglary,” he said.
All three suspects are currently under remand and being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code that carries a maximum of 10 years imprisonment and a fine, upon conviction, he said. – The Vibes, August 18, 2021
