KUALA LUMPUR – The closure in stages of several vaccination centres (PPVs) in the Klang Valley may be controversial, but is in line with the Covid-19 immunisation targets set by the government.
The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal Getaran quoted a well-placed source as saying the move is not driven by political affiliations or agendas.
He said allegations of impropriety in the government’s decision to shut down the PPVs are highly irresponsible.
“Once a sizeable number of people have been vaccinated, several PPVs become no longer relevant,” said the source, stressing that factors like a centre’s location and its capacity to accommodate people daily are taken into account.
For example, the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur PPV continues to operate due to its strategic location and accessibility.
“In fact, a large number of vaccine recipients are based around the vicinity,” said the insider.

ProtectHealth through the private medical practitioner has performed an outstanding job in assisting the government in achieving vaccination target in Selangor and Klang Valley.
This appears to confirm Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah’s assertion that the vaccination process will be stepped up now that private health facilities are involved in the immunisation drive.
He said ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn Bhd, a company under the Health Ministry, has done a commendable job helping the government hit its immunisation targets in the Klang Valley and the rest of Selangor.
ProtectHealth is tasked with coordinating the participation of private medical practitioners and healthcare non-governmental organisations in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Dr Noor Hisham recently tweeted that PPVs in the Klang Valley will be gradually shut, and that the Health Ministry, with the assistance of the private sector, will do the “mopping up” and handle future vaccine recipients, including children aged between 12 and 17.
Last month, Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail called on the authorities to state the cost of mega PPV operations to ensure no irregularities.
If it is proven that the cost borne by the government is high, he said, an explanation should be given to ensure transparency and prevent leakages. – The Vibes, August 25, 2021
