KOTA KINABALU – Sabah and Labuan have recorded the highest unemployment rate in the country. 

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (Tapah-BN) said nine out of 100 individuals in the two areas are jobless.

“The Sabah and Labuan unemployment rate has increased to 8.8% and Labuan at 8.7%.”

Saravanan said this in response to a question from Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang-BN) today in Parliament. 

The minister shared that the national unemployment rate has dropped by 0.3% from 5.1% to 4.8% in the second quarter of this year. 

The rate in other states are 5.3% in Perlis, followed by Kelantan (4.8%), Kuala Lumpur (4.7%), Selangor (4.4%), Perak (4.4%), Sarawak (4.4%) and Terengganu (4.2%). 

For Kedah, Penang, Johor, Melaka and Negri Sembilan, the unemployment rate stood between 3.5% and 3.9%, while the lowest was in Putrajaya with 1.7%, he added. – The Vibes, September 14, 2021
