KOTA KINABALU – Despite leaving Warisan, Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob is adamant about keeping his seat and that the pre-signed resignation letter submitted before the Sabah polls last year is invalid.

He said his departure is similar to Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A. Gani Pg Amir’s case, when he, too, left Warisan and his pre-signed letter was deemed invalid by the state speaker.

“It is the same as Sebatik (Hassan). That’s (pre-signed letter) not valid,” he told The Vibes.

In Hassan’s resignation, state Speaker Datuk Kadzim Yahya said the pre-signed, undated resignation is void and goes against public policy.

Kadzim had said that, according to current laws, the assemblyman involved must write a letter and send it to the speaker if he wishes to resign.

“So, I can’t make a decision that will breach our laws.”

Yusof, who is former Warisan information chief, announced his departure from the party yesterday, citing an inability to serve his constituents being an opposition leader.

He also declared his support for the ruling parties at the federal and state levels, while saying he will remain an independent.

Rumours of him leaving the Warisan started a week ago.

Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is expected to hold a press conference on the latest developments in his party.
