KUCHING – While most political parties face the problem of jostling for seats among their members during election time, Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) is facing a shortage of candidates to stand in the upcoming Sarawak polls.
The party, which is ambitiously yearning to contest in all 82 seats has now resorted to inviting suitable candidates to stand for the election on a PBK ticket.
PBK deputy president Peli Aron who is expected to be the candidate for Simanggang (N32) told The Vibes by phone: “In order to win big in the election, the key strategy is to contest in all 82 seats and win a majority in the seats contested.
“PBK is a strong contender to win big in the election. We have strategies which we will unleash at the right time,” he said in response to recent criticisms in the press and social media that PBK will not be able to mount a strong challenge in the election against the bigger players.
According to Peli, PBK now has more than 50 candidates, and is looking forward to having qualified Sarawakians who accept and believe in the party’s struggles to create an independent Sarawak, which is the core essence of the party’s manifesto.
“PBK is committed to restoring all constitutional and moral rights of Sarawak and Sarawakians, which have been ‘illegally’ taken away from the state since 1963. This can be done by seeking independence from the Federation of Malaysia,” said Peli who is also chairman of PBK’s Simanggang and Betong divisions.
“We need to fill several seats, including the seats of Layar and Bukit Sabah,” he said, noting that the candidate slated for Layar, Ges anak Berundang, has since passed away.
The party has announced potential candidates who will contest in the Simanggang and Betong divisions, as follows:
- N.29 Beting Maro – Jackie Chiew
