KUALA LUMPUR – Umno has set March 16 to19 as the new dates for its annual general assembly.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Zaihidi Zainul Abidin confirmed the dates after the party leadership met at its headquarters in Menara Dato Onn this evening.

The general assembly was supposed to take place from January 12 to 15 but was postponed due to the floods that hit eight states in the country.

“The party is united. The prime minister and party president are all together in wanting to help people facing the floods,” Zahidi said.

Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the assembly will kick off with the launching of the assemblies for the Wanita, Pemuda, and Puteri wings on March 16.

The actual assemblies for the wings will take place the following day on March 17.

Party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is scheduled to present his keynote speech on March 18, which falls on a Friday.

The second day of Umno’s main general assembly will take place on March 19.

Ahmad said all delegates from each of Umno’s divisions will be invited to physically attend the assembly, which will not be a hybrid event.

He said all five delegates from the three wings will be attending their respective assemblies as well.

“Despite this, standard operating procedures will still be observed in terms of social distancing, face masks, the usage of MySejahtera, sanitisers, and others,” he said.

On the recent floods between December and January, Ahmad said the Umno Supreme Council meeting today took note of the improvements to the nation’s disaster response, especially in Selangor.

He said the special parliamentary session on February 20 will hopefully bring about fruitful ideas to protect the country from major floods in the future.

Ahmad said Umno also extends its gratitude to all its members who had volunteered to assist flood victims in their constituencies.

The Pontian parliamentarian also said the Supreme Council meeting stressed its unwavering support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“The Supreme Council has decided that all preparations are being made to ensure that the party’s activities run smoothly in holding various programmes to attract voters aged 18 and other new voters, who number around 5.8 million.” – The Vibes, January 12, 2022
