SHAH ALAM – The Pakatan Harapan state government may risk being voted out in the next election if it fails to resolve the regular water supply disruptions, said a PKR assemblyman.
Azmizam Zaman Huri (Port Klang-PH) told the state assembly today this after gathering public feedback following the recent spate of water supply disruptions.
“We must take this issue seriously. In the next two years, there must not be any more water issues before the general election. If there are, then goodbye PH,” said Azmizam.
“The people told us (assemblymen) this when we were sending water supplies during the recent disruption. We must seriously heed this warning and advice from the rakyat who want the best service.”
Azmizam said this in debating the amendments to the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) Enactment 1999.
He suggested that the director and officers of the Selangor Water Management Board and other state water agencies be changed frequently to avoid possibilities of corruption and power abuse.
“Most enforcement officers, especially in local governments, stay in the same posts for far too long. Some never even change (until retirement). This will raise suspicions in the future.
“I’m not accusing anyone. But we must review how long a director or an officer can stay in one position, just like in the police where officers are swapped every three or four years,” he said.
Responding to this in his winding up speech, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said many of these positions are fixed appointments.
He said while transferring officers inter-department and agencies is allowed on a loan basis, three criteria have to be fulfilled for this to happen.
“The person being transferred, the agency taking the person in, and the agency letting go of the officer have to agree. If any one of the three requirements are not fulfilled, the transfer cannot take place.” – The Vibes, November 9, 2020
