GEORGE TOWN – Penang police have denied closing the investigation into the murder attempt on Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) executive director Datuk M. Ramachandran, saying that the probe is ongoing.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the investigation has never been closed and remains active.
“The investigation is still active; the case has never been closed... I have no comments (regarding the allegation on attempts to close the case),” he told reporters here today.
Yesterday, Deputy Chief Minister and PHEB chairman P. Ramasamy had expressed disappointment over police investigations of Ramachandran’s attempted murder case.
“I want to know what the latest status of the case is, and why police are not moving in this case and have yet to charge the suspects.”
Meanwhile, Ramachandran said he was beginning to lose confidence in the police.
“Eight months have passed, and they have yet to prosecute the alleged suspects involved in the case.”
In the incident on July 24 last year, Ramachandran suffered severe injuries after being hacked by a group of individuals in front of his residence in Taman Impian, Machang Bubok about 7pm.
Ramachandran, 70, was injured in the neck, thighs, back of the head and body as a result of being attacked with a sharp weapon and received treatment at a private hospital here. – The Vibes, April 1, 2022
