KOTA KINABALU – All assistance and donations from civil society groups, private companies, community leaders and individuals in Sabah must be sent to the welfare officers in the respective districts to be distributed.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said this is decided after the state disaster management committee (Covid-19) meeting today.

Individuals and groups that wish to donate food and essential items to the needy, cannot hand the donations directly to the recipients, but must be sent to the welfare officers.

“We care for the donors. We put their health and safety first. The procedure is to ensure that the donors are not exposed to Covid-19.

“It will make the process easier, they only need to hand all their donations, for example food assistance packs, to the welfare offices and the personnel will distribute the assistance for them.

“We know which areas pose higher risk, higher infection rate. So, we just want to ensure the safety and health of the donors.”

He said the state government still welcomes donations from all parties, and those from outside Sabah must get special approval before entering Sabah for the purpose. – The Vibes, November 13, 2020
