KUALA LUMPUR – Taman Pertama residents have been left terrified and traumatised by a landslide yesterday that levelled a house and rendered eight others unsafe for occupancy, said Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai.
Speaking to The Vibes, he said rectification works to stabilise soil movement at the affected site have been expedited to ease the residents’ worries.
“The elderly here, in particular, are living in fear of a recurring incident,” he said, adding that he will be chairing a meeting with Jalan Selagat homeowners tomorrow to discuss the formation of a liaison committee with authorities and developers.
The former DAP chairman also said the city hall (DBKL) has assured him that an immediate stop-work order has been issued to the developer today and will be enforced for as long as recommended by the investigation report of the incident.
“In other words, the stop-work order is indefinite and has no expiry date,” he said, adding that mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah has promised to speed up remedial works.
Besides a stop-work order, the local authority has instructed the developer to fortify the “contiguous bore pile (CBP) wall” with an earth berm (raised barrier) and concrete block.
As part of the safety measures, water and electricity supply to the collapsed house has been stopped, while Air Selangor has resolved the burst pipe at the end of Lorong Selagat.
DBKL added that personnel from its infrastructure planning and enforcement departments will monitor the site daily until it is deemed safe.
Yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement that its operations centre received a distress call at 2.52pm notifying them of the incident along Lorong Selangat.
“The personnel and police had instructed residents to vacate their homes and move to safe areas. No casualties were reported,” the statement read. – The Vibes, May 23, 2022
