PENAMPANG – The Sabah government remains committed to nature preservation and conservation, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor at the launch of the Kaamatan festival here today.
“I urged everyone to always care for the nature, flora and fauna in the state. As reported in the media, there are many natural disasters happening due to the unpredictable weather and Malaysia is not spared by this.
“Such a situation is affecting the production of food and impacting the people.”
Hajiji expressed hope that this year’s Kaamatan theme would generate awareness and reminders to preserve and conserve nature for future generations.
“Sabahans are lucky to be blessed in culture and traditions. It is hoped the month-long festival will strengthen our unity, kinship, friendship and togetherness.
“The ability of the ethnic groups in Sabah to sit at the same table is the true spirit of Keluarga Malaysia.”
Hajiji then announced a special allocation of RM3.5 million for the expansion of the Kadazandusun Cultural Association Hall and food stalls, among others.
He said the state has allocated RM227.4 million for the tourism sector in this year’s state budget, and some RM131.93 million from the allocation was handed to the state’s Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry and its agencies.
“This is among the continuous commitment by the state to ensure every component of green sustainability is given the attention it deserves.”
Hajiji said this in reference to this year’s Kaamatan Harvest Festival theme “Kaamatan Monunduan Do Winorun” (Kaamatan Ensouls Nature), saying this year’s theme is most apt given global climate change. – The Vibes, May 30, 2022
