KOTA BELUD – Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the Kukusan representative Rina Jainal’s defection from the party was expected, but the move has not crippled its Kalabakan division.

The Senallang assemblyman said Rina had signed several documents before joining Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan), but could not confirm the nature of the documents.

“I was made to understand she had signed some documents, but I am not sure what she is getting. Her departure could not be avoided,” Shafie said during Warisan’s Kaamatan open house, here, this evening.

Shafie said, however, that Warisan’s Kalabakan division remains “intact” and “strong”, adding that the party had suffered various attempts at weakening it.

Despite the attempts, Shafie said the party remained robust.

Rina announced her departure from Warisan to join Harapan, the party once led by the late Datuk Lajim Ukin.

Harapan is now helmed by Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah, and is aligned with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, the coalition holding state power.

During a press conference earlier today, Rina also announced her resignation as Warisan’s women’s wing vice-chief and from the Kalabakan division chief post, effective immediately.

Meanwhile, Liew denied claims that Rina was bribed over the defection. – The Vibes, June 5, 2022
