KUALA LUMPUR – Some 67,944 housing units have been approved up to of this year under the Residensi Wilayah Keluarga Malaysia initiative, announced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The units are spread across 97 major housing development projects in Kuala Lumpur, three in Putrajaya and four in Labuan, said Ismail Sabri.
“The government will continue to ensure that the homes offered met current needs of having an environment that is comfortable, conducive, family friendly, practical, and affordable, keeping in line with the vision of one family one home,” he said, adding that the government has outline these criteria under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
Ismail Sabri said this during a speech prior to handing over home keys to Residensi Skywani 3 residents earlier today.
Also present was Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
The project, built by SkyWorld, offers 1,905 residential units with built-ups of 800 sq ft (three bedrooms and two bathrooms) at a price of RM300,000 per unit.
Ismail credited the Federal Territories Ministry for efforts to provide affordable housing, especially to the B40 and M40 groups.
He welcomed the commitment of the developer in helping to realise the government’s aspiration to provide affordable housing, especially for city dwellers.
Keeping in line with providing livable space to lower income groups, Ismail Sabri also pointed to the creation of Council Homes, an initiative spearheaded by the Federal Territories Ministry (KWP).
The council homes are meant to act as transit homes for rent at affordable rates for the B40 income group.
“KWP targeted 5,000 units of council homes between this year and 2027.
“To date, 10 locations have been identified for the construction of the council homes,” he said. – The Vibes, June 18, 2022
