MIRI – A predawn fire razed a block of 10 shophouses to the ground in the remote town of Kabong in central Sarawak.

The incident at about 3am saw all the structures totally destroyed, said Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in a statement.

The department received a 999 alert about the fire and rushed teams to the site.

“The fire started from one shop and spread to the others in the block,” it said.

“The shops are located near SJK(C) Kobong in Kg Hilir in town. All the 10 shops are totally burnt,” the department said.

All the residents living in the shops managed to escape unharmed.

The cause of the blaze is still being probed, said the department. – The Vibes, June 29, 2022
