KUALA LUMPUR – PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and incoming deputy president Rafizi Ramli held their first-ever “casual” meeting, following the latter’s big win in the party’s recent polls.
In a Facebook post today, Anwar said that the session – which was also attended by Permatang Pauh MP and former PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar – was an informal meet-up where the trio had discussed party matters.
“Yesterday, I met Rafizi while being accompanied by Nurul Izzah. (We had) a casual talk while going over agendas to strengthen PKR,” he was quoted as saying by The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister publication Getaran.
The post was positively received by netizens, with most describing Rafizi and Nurul Izzah as the party’s successors who are leading its much-touted reform agenda.
Facebook user Jasdeep Singh suggested that Anwar should consider the possibility of allowing the two young figures to have bigger responsibilities for the upcoming general election (GE15).
“Do let Rafizi and Nurul (Izzah) play a major role for the coming GE15,” he said.
Meanwhile, another user named Kyoko Riders said that PKR grassroots members are looking forward to the party producing better and fresher ideologies.
“We have never stopped praying for something better in PKR, God willing,” he said.
Last month, Rafizi, who is also the former Pandan MP, cemented his return to active politics after defeating PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in the party’s deputy president race.
Having withdrawn from politics in December 2019, Rafizi announced his return and bid for the party’s number two role in March this year.
On the campaign trail, Rafizi had also openly criticised the opposition’s so-called “big tent” approach, claiming that such a move would require PKR to embrace politicians that were not favoured by the people, and urged the party to prioritise strengthening itself. – The Vibes, June 29, 2022
