MIRI – Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has warned Sarawakians to brace themselves for another wave of Covid-19 due to the infectious Omicron sub-variants, following the detection of BA.2.12.1 and BA.5 in Kuching and Sibu.

In a statement, he urged those working in high-risk jobs to get their second booster jabs soonest at the nearest clinics or hospitals.

Dr Sim is also state minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government.

Earlier this week, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s Institute of Health and Community Medicine detected BA.2.12.1 and BA.5 in cases in Kuching and Sibu.

Last October 30, a new sub-variant Delta AY.23 was found in Sarawak, which fuelled a surge of infections in Singapore. – The Vibes, June 30, 2022
