KUALA LUMPUR – Stand-up comedy organisers Crackhouse Comedy Club have lodged a police report after a woman, who professed to be of Muslim faith and to have memorised the Quran, had stripped and allegedly insulted Islam during an open mic show in its premises recently.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the comedy club said the police report had been filed at Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station.

It also said that the woman and her partner were banned from the venue immediately after the performance.

“The Crackhouse Comedy Club strongly condemns the contents of a now-viral video showing an individual allegedly insulting Islam during an open mic show on our premises,” it said.

A detailed statement will also be issued shortly, it said.

A video of the said woman who pulled the stunt in front of an audience during a three-minute open mic session at Crackhouse Comedy Club has since gone viral on social media.

In the 45-second video, the woman introduced herself as “Siti Amira binti Abdullah” and claimed to be Muslim and to have memorised 15 chapters (juzuk) of the Quran.

“Hello and assalamualaikum everyone. My name is Siti Amira binti Abdullah. I’m from Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

“I’m a Malay and Muslim, and I have memorised 15 verses of the Quran. But one second…,” she said before starting to undress, revealing her spaghetti top and tight mini skirt.

As she started to take off her headscarf and baju kurung, cheering and clapping from the audience were heard echoing through the premises.

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) had conducted a preliminary investigation into a recent viral video, believed to be an act of insult to Islam, committed at the club, located at Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

Its director, Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail, said that his department took note of the viral video, and a preliminary investigation had been carried out by the Jawi Enforcement Division.

Under Section 7 of the Shariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997 (Act 559), which is insulting or causing contempt against Islam, (such an act) is an offence, and can be fined not more than RM3,000 or imprisoned for a term not exceeding two years or both if convicted,” he said.

Ajib said that Jawi will not compromise with any act aimed at insulting and tarnishing the image and sanctity of Islam in the Federal Territories, especially ahead of the Aidiladha celebration tomorrow.

It is learnt that the woman in question, along with her partner, had allegedly tarnished the reputation of live music bar Merdekarya in the past for allegedly “deceiving” its patrons into eating pork at its premises. – The Vibes, July 9, 2022
