KUALA LUMPUR – PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has been retained as the party’s secretary-general while Nurul Izzah Anwar completes her comeback to the PKR leadership following her appointment as party vice-president.
Nurul Izzah stepped down as an elected vice-president in December 2018.
Alongside her, party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has named Putatan MP Awang Suhaini Sahari as vice-president, representing Sabah and Sarawak.
In a surprise appointment, Anwar announced K. Saraswathy, a lawyer by profession who had been part of the party’s election committee, as vice-president as well.
It is learnt that Saraswathy’s appointment was made to balance the now pro-Rafizi Ramli line-up as well as the gender makeup in the party’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil and Selayang MP William Leong were appointed party information chief and treasurer respectively.
PKR Titiwangsa branch chief Zahir Hassan has been appointed as PKR chief organising secretary.
Five appointments into the PKR central leadership council include former Kapar MP G. Manivannan, Tawau MP Christina Liew, Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail, Sarawak PKR information chief Abun Sui Anyit, and Johor PKR Youth chief R. Yuneswaran.
The appointments were announced following the first meeting of the party’s newly elected central leadership council last night.
Saifuddin had contested the deputy presidency in the PKR polls, but lost to Rafizi while
Fahmi and Manivannan had sought vice-president posts but lost.
