KUALA LUMPUR – The electrical fire at a Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) substation in northern Yong Peng, Johor was the cause of the major power outage in Peninsular Malaysia.

The company confirmed the incident with The Vibes, saying “It is Yong Peng, yes”.

A video has been circulating on social media showing blue sparks and flames at the substation.

TNB said in a statement that all affected areas had their electricity supply restored by 3.02pm.

“Many affected areas had their supply restored as early as 20 minutes after the disruption, due to continuous efforts by TNB’s technical team.”

The disruption at the Yong Peng North substation caused the loss of 2.2 gigawatts, which is 10% of the demand in Peninsular Malaysia.

Earlier, The Vibes reported that several areas across Peninsular Malaysia, including the Klang Valley, Penang, and Pahang suffered from power outages, which subsequently affected the operations of the light rail transit service, Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd, and delivery services such as Grab. – The Vibes, July 27, 2022
