KUALA LUMPUR – The Hartal Doktor Kontrak movement today slammed the Health Ministry (MoH) over its purported ban on food deliveries for staff and patients in Sg Buloh Hospital.

On social media, the medical workers’ rights advocacy group said the move was insensitive towards staff who could face difficulties in obtaining meals on hospital grounds while on duty beyond the standard working hours.

“MoH logic, ban food delivery like Grab and Foodpanda for staff and patients. Might as well ban eating so that there will be no waste produced.

“Perhaps those who made this decision have forgotten the feeling of hunger when being on call,” the movement said on Twitter.

The post also included a snapshot of a circular dated yesterday, which was reportedly issued by the hospital’s director.

The Vibes has reached out to the movement and the ministry for comment on the matter.

The circular stated that a decision was reached during a meeting with all heads of department on July 26.

It said the ban on all online food deliveries on hospital grounds was due to numerous complaints lodged over food waste and litter, apart from the presence of pests in hospital wards.

As a compromise, the circular also stated that cafeteria services on the hospital grounds will be improved to meet the demands of staff and the general public. – The Vibes, August 10, 2022
