KUALA LUMPUR – Although disgraced former prime minister was not welcomed by a few hundred of his supporters, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor turned up at the court complex here just past noon to lend Datuk Seri Najib Razak some support.
Today marks Najib’s first appearance after spending two days in Kajang Prison after the Federal Court upheld his 12-year sentence and RM210 million fine in the SRC conviction.
Dressed in a pink and green floral motif baju kurung and matching tudung, Rosmah arrived in court in a black Proton Perdana.
This morning, Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa was seen in court as well as a small group of people purported to be his supporters.
However, the supporters were prevented from gathering outside the fourth floor courtroom.
The atmosphere at the court complex is relatively subdued today, with only lawyers, media, and a handful of members of the public present.
Under a heavily guarded convoy, Najib arrived at the court complex shortly after 8.30am for the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial but was not spotted in public.
He is facing four charges of using his position to obtain bribes totaling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
Najib’s family also showed up on Tuesday – Rosmah, sons Nor Ashman and Mohd Nizar, and Nooryana – during his final SRC appeal at the Federal Court.
They were seen exchanging some words before he was taken away by police to immediately serve his jail sentence. – The Vibes, August 25, 2022
