SANDAKAN – Libaran MP Datuk Zakaria Edris of Bersatu has denied wanting to quit the party and join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) as reported by Free Malaysia Today.
“That is not true. I will issue a statement to clear the air,” he told The Vibes.
Zakaria is among four Sabah MPs who had quit Umno for Bersatu in 2019, after the Barisan Nasional government lost in the 14th general election the year prior.
He is currently Bersatu Libaran divisional chief.
Libaran has been retained by Umno in every election since the seat was first contested in 1995.
Speculation of his defection from Bersatu came with news that Lahad Datu MP Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, also of Bersatu, had joined PBM. This is to be officially announced tomorrow.
Mohamaddin, who is also Segama assemblyman, quit Bersatu on June 28, blaming the party’s Sabah chief Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor for constantly ignoring his requests for development in his constituency.
Hajiji is also Sabah chief minister.
A media invitation to the announcement on Mohamaddin has been shared and PBM president Datuk Larry Sng is expected to attend. –The Vibes, August 27, 2022
