GEORGE TOWN – Pakatan Harapan (PH) has done wonders for the country despite losing the federal government through the Sheraton Move backdoor manoeuvre, said Penang DAP chairman and Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today.
He said voters’ support for PH enabled the imprisonment of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the conviction of his wife Datuk Seri Rosmah Mansor. Both were slapped with corruption-related charges.
Chow said that another success achieved through PH was the enactment of the anti-party hopping legislation which prevents any elected representative from simply defecting and causing political instability.
“All of such things would not have happened if not for the people supporting us,” he said at the launch of the Penang DAP election machinery at The Top in Komtar.
“PH is making inroads but to achieve our reform struggle, we need the voters to first allow us to defend Penang and to retake Putrajaya,” he said.
“In hindsight, PH has done well despite the setbacks and having the government stolen from the coalition,” the Padang Kota assemblyman added.
Meanwhile, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said that the battle lines were more or less set in the coming election with three coalitions now vying for honours to serve the country.
Voters must decide if they want a coalition which can reset the nation-building agenda so the country can regain its progressive momentum or allow corruption to continue to prevail, he said.
“It is about saving a nation. This is more important than everything else,” added Lim, a former party chairman and current Iskandar Puteri MP.
Later, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said that the speculations of an early election date may now subside due to the meteorological services report that many parts of the country would be experiencing high rainfall until year end.
Loke said that it remains to be seen how Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob would react to the weather report. – The Vibes, September 11, 2022
