KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari did not seek the consent of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to dissolve the state assembly during his recent audience on Tuesday, said the ruler’s private secretary.

In a statement today, Datuk Muhamad Munir Bani said the statement is in response to inaccurate information being disseminated via social media surrounding the decision not to dissolve the state assembly.

“On October 11, the Selangor menteri besar did not request that the sultan of Selangor dissolve the state assembly, but had expressed his wish for the current administration to continue governing the state.

“His majesty took note of this and hoped that the agenda to continue developing Selangor would carry on for the sake of the people,” he added.

Last Tuesday, the Selangor government reportedly received the consent of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to not dissolve its assembly in line with the dissolution of Parliament yesterday.

This will allow the state to carry on its administration and focus efforts on other more pressing issues, including the incoming monsoon season.

In a statement then, Amirudin had said the consent was given during an audience he had with his majesty at the Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam.

“I have conveyed the state government’s commitment and preparations in facing possible flooding in Selangor and the state’s efforts to help the economy recover, provide welfare aid, and prepare for the 2023 state budget – which will be tabled in the assembly this year.

“His majesty has consented to maintain the administration so that attention can be focused on efforts on ensuring the rakyat’s well-being is taken care of,” he said. – The Vibes, October 13, 2022
