KUALA LUMPUR – The water level readings above the danger mark in several areas in Kedah is on a downward trend as at 6.30pm yesterday, Environment and Water Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Zaini Ujang said.

Downward trends were recorded at the Sg Melaka station in Padang Matsirat; Bukit Kemboja, Langkawi; and Sg Anak Bukit in Jambatan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kota Setar, he said, reminding residents also to follow the advice of security forces and evacuation procedures.

He also said that the several other areas affected by floods in the Langkawi district include Kg Kilim (Galeria Perdana), Kg Ayer Hangat (Telaga Air Hangat), Kg Sungai Itau, Kg Bohor Merah, Kg Teluk Yu, Kg Bukit Kemboja, Kg Penarak, and Kg Titi Changwang.

“There was a water surge at the Telaga Tujuh waterfalls due to continuous heavy rain in the upstream area and runoff from the hilly area.

“As of 6.30pm, the areas still affected are the Padang Matsirat public market, Kg Bohor Mosque, Kg Nyior Chabang, and Kg Atas Padang Matsirat with water depths of 0.3 to 0.5 metres. However, the water levels have started to recede,” he added.

Zaini said that although weather conditions in the north had gradually improved from 2pm yesterday, the continuous rain warning for the north of the peninsula is being maintained until today. – Bernama, October 17, 2022
