KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Star president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan has expressed shock over the sudden spike of voters in Sabah.
The Keningau incumbent MP said his constituency’s voters, for example, have surprisingly increased by over 70%.
“This (the number) is abnormal and improbable,” he said.
Based on the latest figures from the Election Commission (EC), there’s a 70.7% spike in Keningau voters from 51,777 in 2018 to 87,371 voters in 2022.
Kitingan said he was informed that the automatic registration of 18-year-old voters only included less than 8,000 individuals.
“It is impossible that there’s more than a 30,000 spike in new voters over the span of five years. There must be something wrong,” he said.
SAPP president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee recently called for a probe into the spike in Sabah voter numbers.
Citing figures from the EC, he said there has been a 53.9% increase in Sabah voters from 1,064,686 in 2008 to 1,638,806 this year.
He alleged the electoral roll may be tainted with dubious voters given the size of the increment. – The Vibes, October 19, 2022
