KUCHING – The openness of the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in finding solutions to issues relating to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) has helped smooth out the negotiation process for Sabah and Sarawak.
This was the sentiment shared by both Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor after attending the MA63 Implementation Action Council meeting chaired by Anwar here today.
While expressing their thanks and gratitude for several important decisions made during the meeting, Abang Johari said the decisions were mostly about the implementation of what had been agreed upon before and not relating to any new demand.
“The matters raised today were actually those enshrined in the MA63, now it is just about the implementation. If it has technical issues, I’m sure they can be resolved,” he told a press conference after the meeting.
Meanwhile, Hajiji said that numerous issues relating to the MA63 have been resolved by the prime minister, including the transfer of gas supply regulatory power to the Sabah government.
“Even though there were other issues that need further negotiations, we are confident that the government under Anwar’s leadership will be able to resolve most of the MA63 issues,” he said. – Bernama, January 20, 2023
