MIRI – Sarawak was not only allocated RM5.6 billion from the recent budget, but also a huge chunk of the RM20 billion for the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway, which spans across Sarawak and Sabah, and a major portion of development projects bordering Indonesia’s Kalimantan, said state Pakatan Harapan information chief Abun Sui Anyit.
This all adds up to the biggest ever national budget allocation given to Sarawak, he claimed.
Abun Sui, who is also Sarawak PKR deputy chairman, said the state was getting good attention from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. who is also finance minister.
“Sarawak has been given RM5.6 billion direct allocation from the newly announced national budget.
“Sarawak is also getting a big share of the RM20 billion specifically allocated for the completion of the Sarawak-Sabah Pan Borneo Highway.
“This means that Sarawak will benefit from the largest ever amount for the state.
“We in Sarawak PKR and Sarawak PH are grateful to the serious attention given to Sarawak,” he said in a statement.
Sui, who is Hulu Rajang PKR branch chairman, said Sarawak will also benefit directly from the border development plans along the state’s boundaries with the Indonesian state of Kalimantan.
“The federal government will spend specific funds to develop this border region due to the new Indonesian capital in Nusantara, Kalimantan.
“Sarawakians living in the border region of Belaga district adjacent to the border in central Sarawak will surely benefit from these new development projects,” he said. – Bernama, February 27, 2023
