KUALA LUMPUR – The Executive Committee on the National Food Security Policy has recommended that more parties should be involved in providing input related to food security in the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah said this included collaborations involving government agencies, academics, researchers, and industry players.
“Another focus agreed on (in the meeting) was the issue involving animal feed and grain, which have become increasingly difficult and expensive to obtain due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and how it can be cultivated in the country,” he told reporters after presiding over the committee’s meeting at Menara Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang here yesterday.
He said the results of the meeting will be presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry issued following the meeting, the committee has been tasked with proposing the direction of food security, submitting proposals, and identifying policy issues and challenges, strategies, and government action plans.
It said it was set up following a decision made by the cabinet on April 29, 2020, adding that Anwar has entrusted Fadillah with chairing the committee beginning this year.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu is the committee’s co-chairman. – The Vibes, March 22, 2023
