KUALA LUMPUR – Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali is expected to resign tomorrow amid intense rumours of a change of leadership in the state.

According to the New Straits Times, which quoted party sources, Melaka investment, industry, cooperative development and cooperatives committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh is set to take Sulaiman’s position.

Party sources also stated that Rauf is expected to be sworn in on Friday, in front of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam.

It is understood that the decision was made following a meeting between Sulaiman and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Sulaiman is Masjid Tanah Umno deputy chief and Lendu assemblyman, while Rauf is the Melaka Umno chief and the assemblyman for Tg Bidara.

When contacted, Rauf refused to comment on the matter.

“Has there been an official confirmation? I refuse to comment further until the official information,” he told the English news daily.

Previously, Zahid hinted at a change in the state’s administration, adding that it was in line with the aspiration of the unity government. – The Vibes, March 29, 2023
