MELAKA – Good relations between local authorities in all states can further expand the sharing of various innovations and system improvements that benefit the community, says Malaysian Association of Local Authorities (Mala) president Datuk Shadan Othman.
He said that with various new challenges that are becoming increasingly complex, sharing innovations among the local authorities is one of the key solutions to solving the problems that they are facing.
“We see many innovations made by the local authorities today, and these innovations can be used in Melaka or the good ones from Melaka can be used by other local authorities.
“Therefore, the network of relationships between local authorities will be expanded, especially in terms of innovation, municipal services, and community well-being,” he said.
He told this to reporters after attending the opening ceremony of the association’s 22nd annual general meeting here, which was officiated by the state Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman, Datuk Rais Yasin.
During the meeting, Shadan was appointed Mala president to replace Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk P. Rajendran Anthony for the 2023-2025 period.
Shadan said he wanted to empower the welfare of all local authorities registered under Mala during his tenure, among other things.
“So far, 102 of the 155 local authorities in Malaysia are registered under Mala, and we will intensify the promotion to attract those that have yet to register, and we are confident that more will join us soon,” he said. – Bernama, June 25, 2023
