Azmin to face former protege in Hulu Kelang

GOMBAK – It will be a straight fight for the Hulu Kelang state seat between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN). 

What makes it even more interesting is that former PKR leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who left to join Bersatu, will battle it out with his former protege Juwairiya Zulkifli. 

Juwairiya is the incumbent Bukit Melawati assemblyman while Azmin moves to Hulu Kelang from Bukit Antarabangsa. 

The Election Commission’s (EC) Hulu Kelang returning officer Khairul Aizawati Khalid announced that both their papers were accepted at the Mutiara Bestari hall, here, at about 10am. 

Juwairiya, who is PKR Women’s head arrived at the hall accompanied by party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. She submitted her papers at 9.15am. 

Meanwhile, Azmin was also accompanied by party heavyweight, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is Bersatu president and PN chairman. He filed his papers at 9.03am. 

Also spotted this morning was Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim with several hundred supporters.  

Others present to lend their support were Umno vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, former education minister Maszlee Malik, MCA leader Mah Hang Soon and former foreign affairs minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman. – The Vibes, July 29, 2023
