PETALING JAYA – There will be three-cornered fights for both the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats on September 9.

Apart from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN), two independent candidates have also joined the fray.

For the Pulai seat, Suhaizan Kaiat from PH, Zulkifli Jaafar (PN), and independent Samsudin Fauzi will battle it out.

Simpang Jeram will see a fight between PH candidate Nazri Abdul Rahman, PN’s Dr Mazri Yahya and independent S Jeganathan.

Both seats were left vacant following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23. He was also Amanah deputy president as well as domestic trade and cost of living minister.

There are 166,653 eligible voters in Pulai and 40,379 voters in Simpang Jeram.

The Election Commission (EC) has set polling day on September 9, with early voting on September 5.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh later said that all campaign materials were allowed as long as they did not touch on the 3Rs (race, religion, and royalty).

He said the EC had deployed two campaign enforcement teams in Pulai and one in Simpang Jeram to oversee the campaign process throughout this period. – The Vibes, August 26, 2023
