PETALING JAYA – Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching was today named the new DAP Wanita chief, succeeding Chong Eng who held the position since 2001.

Chong Eng had earlier said that she had decided to withdraw from the contest despite being nominated.

A lawyer by profession, Teo is Kulai MP and was the DAP Wanita deputy chairman.

Chong Eng will now serve as the Wanita DAP adviser, while Yeo Bee Yin is the new deputy chairman.

All positions were selected without contest, as 15 candidates were nominated for the 15 available positions in the wing.

Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman and Kasthuriraani Patto are the two vice-chiefs, while Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh is among the committee members.

Teo, 42, from Batu Pahat, was also previously the deputy education minister during the sole Pakatan Harapan administration.

Chong Eng, who joined DAP in 1990 as a researcher, said she hopes DAP Wanita will continue to be stronger with more women representation at Parliament and state levels. – The Vibes, September 9, 2023
